The result: Larry and Sergey wanted Steve to Google.

According to the Bloomberg documentary series “Game Changers” Sergey and Larry led at that time (in the early 2000s) interviews with 12 to 13 potential CEOs. None of the candidates but they could convince as jobs. Steve was at the time, unfortunately, already with another company busy enough that would revolutionize the world of mobile Internet a short time later.

Even though Eric Schmidt not so very Steve Jobs is, the two Google founders dared him to eventually lead to Google’s success. For Steve it was not an issue at the time to leave Apple. The only question is how things would run if Steve is not just Apple would have led to success. Maybe Apple and Google would not still hate. Perhaps there would be no iPhone. Or not an android.
