Megatrend Or Pipe Dream?
Innovations and developments resulted in periodic intervals, social and economic booms. Today, in the second decade of the 21st Century are we, the lecturers, on the threshold of the next major cycle of the digital world.
“We begin, not only living in a cloud of data, but to work with the cloud,” explains Harry Gatterer, managing director of the Austrian branch of the future institute. “Cloud computing will prevail if there is not only talking about technology but about how to deal with it.”
Many IT service providers need to create the aforementioned cloud infrastructure, but first and leave the security aspect is not ignored here. “Such service providers, whether they are external service providers or IT departments of companies that find themselves in the coming years, increasingly exposed to global competition and need to achieve economic feasibility and benefits of flexibility in order to survive in the global market,” confirmed Dipl.-Ing. Franz Kasparec MBA, Senior Manager of Solutions Practice at EMC.
The computer of today is a “virtual machine”: a logical construction plan that is stored in a file and is awakened when needed at an appropriate infrastructure to life. Simple, ten times or a thousand times from the same template as needed. A new server has to come from? Cloud computing makes it possible: A few mouse clicks, and he is ready.
Backup on tape, cumbersome storage outside the home? That belongs to the past, thanks to cloud storage. Vendors such as EMC Corporation, the decades of experience in data center consolidation has to push ahead with corporate partners such as Cisco Systems and its subsidiary VMware, the development of efficient and secure Cloud-technology, VCE expert Kasparec.
If the cloud wave is now mega-trend, or pipe dream? The benefits of “cloud computing” were available for the speakers, both from an economic as well from a technical perspective:
Efficiency through automatic load balancing : Through the operation of many virtual machines in a cloud-node results in an automatic load balancing. It is no longer such a way that empty run of 100 machines 99 and one is overloaded. The cost benefits from more efficient use of resources will not disclose the operators of Clouds, sooner or later also to their customers. The lower energy consumption ultimately benefit the environment.
Better utilization : For the operation of a PC, it is typical that is heavily accessed for a second hard drive and then again for several minutes, little or no. While temporary load peaks can therefore provide a virtual machine performance is far superior to that of a normal physical machine.
Flexibly react to customer : Virtual machines are built with one click. One supplier, provided that such reserves, he may, in its cloud infrastructure has to react quickly to the needs of its customers and provide operable from a few hundred virtual PCs to a number of preconfigured servers for all variants of the short-term needs.
